Clogheen 5K Road Race 2016

As usual, the annual Clogheen 5km Road Race was very well attended this year. There was a record turnout of 220 participants with huge local participation, many of whom were well prepared by Liam Fleming during the Fr Sheehys GAA Health and Wellbeing community project.

It was a magnificent battle up front resulting in an exciting sprint finish between Kevin Maunsell, Clonmel AC and James Ledingham, West Waterford AC. They could not be separated on the line and a dead heat was the final verdict with a time of 15.46. Well done to both athletes who gave it everything in the final 200 metres producing a thrilling spectacle for the excited crowd.

James was a previous winner of this race 12 years ago and he is showing no signs of slowing down. Danny Smith in his local 5k  completed the podium positions in a time of 16.39.

In the Ladies event Aine Roche Clonmel AC won in a time of 19.10 with clubmate Claire Annan 2nd in 19.27. Linda Grogan of Dundrum AC was 3rd in 19.52.

Junior Mens winner was Keane O’Keefe Waterford AC  18.00 and the ladies was won by Ruby Carroll, Clonmel AC an exciting young talent for the future.

Vee Rovers Win Division Two

Vee Rovers concluded a successful season last week with a victory over Rosegreen to win division two in the 2015/2016 season. This is an excellent result for the club having been promoted from division three last season. It now leaves them in Division One for the 2016/2017 season, just one step from Tipperary’s Premier Division. This is a remarkable achievement over a short period of time.

Vee Rovers Win Division TwoThe games have come thick and fast for the juniors in the last couple of weeks and the consistency

shown throughout the season was maintained. Wins at home against Donohill and Cashel along with a hard fought victory away to Peake Villa ensured that Vee Rovers stayed in the hunt for league honours. The only glitch was an away defeat to Suirside and this set up a nail-biting finish to the last home game of the season at Scart Park on Tuesday May 17th against Rosegreen. Needing a point to clinch the title Rovers fell a goal behind early on, but the evergreen Warren O Brien levelled the game with twenty minutes to go and Darren Hannigan put the icing on the cake in the 32nd minute when he scored from the edge of the box. There were scenes of unbridled joy when Warren lifted the cup to send Vee Rovers back to the first division after a number of years’ absence. Great credit is due to both management and players for sticking to their task throughout the season and they were justly rewarded on Tuesday night.

A speedy recovery is wished by all to Shane McGrath who suffered a serious injury the previous Sunday in the semi-final of the Paddy Purtill Cup where Rovers had to give way to Cahir Park on a 3-2 scoreline.

Congratulations are also extended to Cian Murphy, son of Seamus and Honora, who represented Ireland under-17s with distinction in a recent tournament in Hungary.

Vee Rovers Division 3 Champions TSDL 2014

___________________

Sunday March 2nd 2014 was a red letter day for the club as Vee Rovers gained promotion to the TS&DL Second Division in a hard fought encounter with Ballyneale at Scart Park.

The away side started much sharper and Vee Rovers found themselves two goals down after twenty five minutes. However Ronan Dwyer showed great leadership and pulled a goal back for the Vee on forty minutes. Vee Rovers began to dominate matters on the turn-over but it looked like it might not be their day as they began to squander chances. Kevin Murray drew Rovers level on sixty five minutes and Ronan Dwyer completed his hat-trick by scoring two more, to give a 4-2 victory and passage to the Second Division next season. With one game to go, Vee Rovers can still be promoted as champions, so it’s all to play for in that final game.

Vee Rovers Results – 2nd Weekend December 2013

The under 10s were at home to St Kevins/Two Mile Borris on Sunday. On a crisp morning this proved to be a very even contest with good skills shown all around. The spoils were shared in a 1-1 draw with Dylan Keating catching the eye for the home-side.

The under 14s were away to St Michaels in the League. The home side proved much too strong and ran out easy winners. There will be better days for this young Rovers side.

The Juniors were away to St Kierans in a vital top of the table league tie at Duneske in Cahir. Having enjoyed the majority of possession the teams reached half-time scoreless. Eoin Flynn gave Rovers the lead after 57minutes and soon afterwards Martin Grant doubled this lead. St Kierans pulled a goal back with twenty minutes to go with a wonder strike, but a rare headed goal from Vee Rovers stalwart Warren O Brien ensured all three points went to Clogheen.

The win keeps Vee Rovers well in contention at the top of the table:
