If you give blood already you’ll most likely be made aware of these days via text by the Irish Blood Transfusion Service (IBTS), but for those who would like to give blood and haven’t done so yet, now is your chance. As we head for the summer, blood supply is, as always, in demand.
Blood transfusions are used for cancer and trauma patients, newborn babies, planned and emergency surgery every day. It is estimated that one in four people will need a blood transfusion at some stage in their life. It is imperative that there is sufficient blood to meet the demand from 63 hospitals nationwide daily.
The IBTS will be in Cahir House Hotel on Tuesday October 16th 2012 from 5 to 8.30pm.
As you’ll see from the accompanying graphic, because blood supplies have to be fresh there is always a need, in some cases only a few days supply remain, so it is imperative that anybody who is fit and able to give blood does so as soon as possible.
Current blood supply can always be ascertained on the IBTS site here.
