Vee Rovers  1 – Clonmel Town  3

The under 10s were at home to Clonmel Town on Sunday. In a very enjoyable game Town proved stronger on the day. The home sides chances were not helped by the presence of a flu-bug in the camp. The final score was 3-1 with the Rovers with the Rovers goal coming from a neat finish by Colum Ahearne. The panel consisted of Alex Spens, Dean Sullivan, Zach Lynch, Zane Lynch, Dylan Keating, Paddy Boyle, Lorcan Ahearne and Colum Ahearne.

Clonmel Celtic B  0 – Vee Rovers  4

The under 14s were away to Clonmel Celtic B at Ferryhouse. Two first half goals from Cian Murphy gave us a cushion at the mid-point. Cian went on to compete a hat trick in the second half and Shane Crosse also got on the score sheet in a 4-0 victory. Excellent performance also from Kyle Morrissey.

Vee Rovers  6 – Donohill  1

The Juniors extended their lead at the top of Division 3 with a fine victory at home to Donohill in the League. Sean Flynn opened the scoring with an excellent free kick after 19 minutes. Warren O Brien increased the lead with a clinical finish after 30 minutes but Donohill soon pulled one back from the penalty spot. Darren Hannigan restored our two goal lead after 38 minutes and two second half goals from Martin Grant and a further goal from Warren O Brien saw Rovers run out 6-1 winners. Vee Rovers News – Final Weekend Nov 2012

Clonmel Town B  0 –  Vee Rovers  3

The under 13s were away to Clonmel Town B at the Dr. Pat O Callaghan Complex. The expansive pitch seemed to suit our lads and goals from Cian Murphy (2) and Shane Crosse, ensured we came home with all three points in a 3-0 victory.

Burncourt Celtic  2 –  Vee Rovers  3

The Juniors were away to Burncourt Celtic in the local derby game. Rovers started the brighter and Jimmi Haddu, who is in a rich vein of form, deservedly put us ahead on 8 minutes. Darren Hannigan stretched our lead with a neat finish at the front post right on the stroke of half-time. Cormac Crowe further increased our lead ten minutes into the second half. Credit to Burncourt they struck back with two goals in a ten-minute period. Rovers were on the back foot for the remainder of the half but held out for a hard earned victory.

The golden goal winner was John Keane, well known in soccer circles as manager of St. Kierans.

The Junior Victory over Burncourt Celtic leaves Vee Rovers poised nicely at the top of Division 3 of the TS & DL.

Vee Rovers News – 4th Weekend Nov. 2012

Junior – Peter O’Reilly Cup

Vee Rovers 2  –  Clerihan 0

The Juniors were at home to Clerihan in the first round of the Peter O Reilly Cup. Played in very trying conditions Clerihan opened brightly and the home side lost a man to a very harsh red card early on. Rovers regrouped and gradually grew into the game playing some good combination football. We reached half time all square and the ten man home side began to dominate as the game wore on. The deadlock was broken in the 64th minute when Jimmi Haddu finished off a good move to give the home side the lead. Clerihan then had to force the game and Rovers caught them on the break for Cormac Crowe to finish to the net and seal victory for the home side. A man down for most of the game, this was a spirited performance and the home side got their just reward. The winner of the golden goal this week was Cathal Moloney.

Congratulation to under 13 player Cian Murphy (son of Vee Rovers stalwart Seamus and Honora Murphy) who has been chosen captain of the T.S. and D.L. under 13 team.

Vee Rovers News – 3rd Weekend Nov. 2012

The under 13s were away to New Oak Boys (Carlow Town) in the 3rd round of the National Cup. The long trip proved a journey too far for this young side and after conceding an early goal we found it difficult to get into this match. The homeside had a one goal advantage at half time but stretched their lead as the game went on and ran out deserving winners. A feature of this game was an outstanding display by Rovers Keeper Cormac Flynn.

U8 & U9

The under 8s and 9s were at the Clonmel Town Complex on Sunday. Both panels had a successful and enjoyable day. The panels included Joshua Fennessy, Lorcan Ahearne, Colum Ahearne, Paddy Boyle, Oisin Ryan, Corey Morrissey and Dylan Keating.

Vee Rovers 5  –  Cashel Town B 0

The Juniors were at home to Cashel Town B in the League. Played in very trying conditions we built up a three goal lead at half time through Martin Grant, Jimmi Haddu and Chriss Platt. Cashel came into the game in the second half but further goals by Warren O Brien and Martin Grant ensured a home victory. As you can see from the table below the Vee are currently well positioned in the league if they should win one of their games in hand.

The Golden Goal winner this week was former Vee Rovers great Liam Wall.

Congratulations to Fr Sheehys stalwart Bertie Sweeney on receiving a Sean-Ghael Award. A much deserved recognition of one of our true sportsmen.

Vee Rovers News – 2nd Weekend Nov. 2012

The under 14s were away to Ballinroad (Dungarvan) in the National Cup on Saturday. Having conceded two early goals the odds were always stacked against us. A spirited second half performance by an exclusively under 13 Vee Rovers side restored some pride but the physically stronger home side ran out comfortable winners.

FAI Junior Cup

The Juniors were at home to North Tipp premier side Thurles Town in the forth round of the 4th round of the F.A.I. Junior Cup. We fell behind to a goal from the visitors after 14minutes but Cormac Crowe restored parity after 27minutes. A second half penalty for Thurles proved to be a winner for the away side, despite Vee Rovers dominating possession for the last 15minutes. All round this was a good performance and we now turn our attention to the more important business of the league.

Golden Goal winner was Paula Flynn.

Vee Rovers Shield Winners – 1980’s

Many thanks to Lios Mhuire Clogheen for this photo. I’m not sure of the date, but would guess it’s early to mid-eighties. During this period Vee Rovers won every division in the Tipperary South and District League (TSDL) on their march from Divison 4 to Division 1, and a few shields as well. This would appear to be one of the Shield winning photos. Any further info on the exact year greatly appreciated.

The under 13s had a good win at home to St. Kevin’s/Two Mile Borris on Saturday. Played in very harsh conditions they built up a comfortable half-time lead and goals from Cian Murphy (3), Kevin O Mahony (2) and Shane Crosse (1) saw them run out easy winners at the end.

Vee Rovers News – 2nd Weekend Sept 2012

Mullinahone 1   –   Vee Rovers 2

The under 13s kicked off their season with an away fixture to Mullinahone. Second half goals from Cian Murphy and Shane Crosse saw us come home with all three points in a 2-1 victory.

St. Kevins 5   –   Vee Rovers 2

The under 14s were at home to a very strong St. Kevins side and we got a dream start when Cian Murphy scored after 2 minutes. The away side led 3-1 at half time and ran out 5-2 winners. Cian Murphy was on the mark for Rovers again in the second half, but the scoreline does not do justice to the effort the home side put into this game.

Vee Rovers 4   –   Clonmel Celtic B 1

The Juniors were at home to Clonmel Celtic B in their first league game. Chris Platt gave us an early lead after 18 minutes and the same player doubled his tally immediately on the restart. Celtic closed the gap with a penalty after 55 minutes but goals from Martin Grant and Warren O Brien ensured a home victory on a 4-1 scoreline.

Golden Goal winner was Mattie Maher; Pontoon winner was Darren O Brien.

Vee Rovers Notes – Last Weekend August 2012

Vee Rovers    8    –    Clerihan    1

The Juniors began their campaign at home to Clerihan in the 3rd Division shield. The away side took the initiative after fifteen minutes with a well taken goal. Chris Platt restored parity after 35 minutes following a knock-down from Martin Grant. Cormac Crowe gave Rovers the lead on 44minutes and so the Vee led at the break. Darren Hannigan gave the home side a two goal cushion after 63minutes and from there on it became a rout for Rovers. Chris Platt scored a great solo goal after 70 minutes and further goals from Jimmi Haddu, Darren Hannigan, Warren O Brien and Ronan Dwyer gave Rovers their biggest win in a number of seasons.

Under 14

Clonmel Town B   4    –    Vee Rovers    1

The under 14s opened their season with an away game against Clonmel Town B at Ferryhouse. Having dominated the first half, in which the Vee missed a penalty, the side was caught with a sucker-punch on the stroke of half time. Dion Morrissey levelled the game for Rovers 10 minutes into the second half from the penalty spot. In an evenly contested game the stronger Town side began to dominate in the last ten minutes and eventually ran out 4-1 winners.
