Vee Rovers News – 2nd Weekend Feb. 2013
Vee Rovers 4 – Clonmel Town B 0
The under13s were at home to Clonmel Town B in the Tipperary Cup on Saturday. Three first half goals from Cian Murphy gave us a comfortable half-time lead and a cool finish from Shane Cross near the end ensured our passage into the next round.
Vee Rovers 2 – Clerihan 0
The Juniors were at home to Clerihan in a vital League fixture. Rovers got the ideal start when Jimmi Haddu scored after 3minutes following good work by Martin Grant and Chriss Platt. Both sides created some scoring chances during the half but the home side preserved their lead at the mid-way point. Clerihan were awarded a penalty in the 50th minute but Cathal Moloney in the home goal produced an excellent save. Almost immediately Darren Hannigan scored for Rovers to double the lead. Clerihan pressed on but found Cathal Moloney in inspired form to thwart their best efforts. Rovers too had their chances on the break but found it difficult to put this game to bed. In the end it was two valuable points gained to keep our promotion hopes alive.
The win leaves Vee Rovers in second place in the Third Division, ahead of Clerihan and behind Ballypatrick with a game in hand. See bottom of post for table.
It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of Patricia (Pattie) Quirke early last week. The Quirke name has been synonymous with Vee Rovers since its foundation, with her family playing roles at all levels. Though getting on in years she took great pleasure in recent times from the exploits of her grandchildren for the Club. To all her extended family we offer our sincerest sympathies. May She rest in peace.
