Knockmealdown Crossing – Peaks Mountaineering Club – April 14th 2012
On Saturday April 14th the Peaks Mountaineering Club will run the Knockmealdown Crossing.
The event consists of three different walks of differing distances, differing difficulty levels and for walkers of different fitness levels along the Knockmealdown mountain range.
The walks are split into A, B and C categories. Check in for all walks is at the Glenview Lounge in Goatenbridge.
- The A walk is 29.5km, starting on the Avondhu Way outside Ballyporeen and walking across the range to Goatenbridge. It is a self-navigated walk and would require walkers to have a significant level of fitness to complete it. It ascends 1,606m and should take 7 to 9 hours to complete. Registration 7am to 7.30am.
- The B walk is 17km, with a climb of 1,050m, it is a lead walk but would still require a good level of fitness. It should take about 7 hours to complete. Registration 8am to 9am with bus leaving Goatenbridge at 9am.
- The C walk starts at Loughglenbridge outside Clogheen. It is also a lead walk, will be 15km long and involves a climb of 55om. Estimate walk time is 5 hours. Registration is from 10am to 11am with the bus leaving at 11.30am.
No matter which walk you are taking, on return all walkers must check in back at the Glenview Lounge to avoid a mountain rescue call out.
On return there will be a hearty two course meal for all participants. Entry fee for the day is just €20.
There will be no Knockmealdown Walking Club excursion on Sunday April 15th as most of the walkers are involved in the Knockmealdown Crossing.
